About the Metropolitan Club

The Metropolitan Club was formed on February 20, 1891, at a dinner of prominent New Yorkers, and J. Pierpont Morgan became its first president. Stanford White designed the clubhouse, which took three years to build and furnish before the members moved in during February 1894. It still stands on its original corner, Fifth Avenue and Sixtieth Street, across from Central Park, and the New York Times called it the Marble Palace when it was finished.

Inside, the house is pure Gilded Age. Its center is the Great Hall: variegated marble walls, a gold coffered ceiling 45 feet up, a Venetian lantern bought at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, a double staircase and five stained glass windows. The President's Ballroom upstairs adds Renaissance-style ceiling murals, two Baccarat crystal chandeliers and tree-lined views of the park.

For weddings, the club pairs two ballrooms with its marble foyer, and smaller period rooms hold the ceremony, the cocktail hour or an after-party. A glass-enclosed Penthouse with a wraparound terrace, added in 2007, is available on weekends. Event hosts can also book the club's guest rooms and suites.

Planning your night at the Metropolitan Club

House rules for the whole team

The club asks gentlemen to wear a jacket and tie at all times, and phones and laptops stay out of every room except private event rooms and bedrooms. We brief each musician and crew member on both before the day, so the club sees the same standard from load-in to the last song.

Rooms on different floors

A wedding here can start in the Great Hall and move to a ballroom upstairs. We map where the ceremony, cocktails and dinner happen, then set the complimentary ceremony musician and the full band in their rooms with time to spare.

Marble, murals and volume

Marble walls and painted ceilings carry sound a long way. Our in-ear monitor system keeps the stage quiet, and our sound engineer, on site two hours early, sets the PA for the room you choose.

Weekend Penthouse plans

The Penthouse is offered on Saturdays and Sundays only, with dinner and dancing for up to 110. For a room that size we plan a compact setup and talk with the event managers about guests moving between the terrace and the dance floor.

"THE BEST EVER. Not only are Gabby and Eddie so easy to work with, they are extremely talented and fun. It has been two weeks since our wedding and guests are still contacting us about the band. They did not stop playing once, and the dance floor was more crowded than any other wedding, all thanks to their energy, talent, and perfect song choices."

Questions about the Metropolitan Club

Have you performed at the Metropolitan Club?

Yes. We have performed at the Metropolitan Club, and we plan our setup with the club's event managers well before the date.

What size band fits the President's Ballroom?

A room that seats 340 can take the full band, up to 11 pieces with horns. For a smaller room such as the Penthouse, Eddie & Gabby, The Duo, or a smaller lineup is often the better fit.

Can the party move to another room after dinner?

Yes. The club offers rooms for an after-party, and with our overtime or DJ after-party add-ons, the music follows your guests there.

Who makes the announcements?

Gabby and Eddie emcee the night. Roughly a month ahead we walk through your timeline together on a call, and before the reception starts, one of us checks every announcement with your planner.
