About the Rainbow Room

The Rainbow Room opened in October 1934, 65 stories above Manhattan at the top of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and at the time no restaurant in the country sat higher. It had Art Deco design, windows two stories tall, a revolving dance floor and a big band orchestra, and film stars came to be seen there. The name came from an organ whose colored lights changed with the music.

Today Rockefeller Center runs it as a private event venue. The main room seats up to 320 under crystal chandeliers with the skyline wrapped around it, and the food comes from the Rainbow Room's own kitchen. Couples also get Rockefeller Center's preferred list of florists, photographers and other vendors, plus planning help from its events team.

The rest of the 65th floor fills out the day. The Gallery next door has south-facing windows toward the Empire State Building and hosts cocktail hours, the Private Dining Room seats a rehearsal dinner at one long table, and Bar SixtyFive, with its open-air terrace, keeps later hours for the end of the night.

Planning your night at the Rainbow Room

Up 65 floors

Every case, cable and drum reaches the room by elevator. We confirm our elevator time and building access with the events team well ahead, and we build that ride into our arrival so our engineer still gets two full hours in the room.

Glass on every side

A room ringed with windows reflects sound back at the band. In-ear monitors keep our stage volume low, and we aim the PA at the dance floor so the tables by the glass can still talk.

From the Gallery to Bar SixtyFive

If cocktails are in the Gallery, the complimentary musician in every package plays there while the band waits in the ballroom. When dinner ends we keep the music running, and a late night in Bar SixtyFive can follow with our DJ after-party add-on.

Preferred list, insured band

Rockefeller Center plans its weddings around a preferred vendor list. We send a certificate of insurance that meets the venue's requirements, plus anything else the events team asks for, long before your date.

"THE BEST EVER. Not only are Gabby and Eddie so easy to work with, they are extremely talented and fun. It has been two weeks since our wedding and guests are still contacting us about the band. They did not stop playing once, and the dance floor was more crowded than any other wedding, all thanks to their energy, talent, and perfect song choices."

Questions about the Rainbow Room

Have you performed at the Rainbow Room?

Yes. We have performed at the Rainbow Room, and we plan the 65th-floor load-in and timing with the events team ahead of the wedding.

Can you give us a big band sound?

Yes. Add trumpet, trombone and tenor saxophone to the core band and you have a full horn section. From big band standards to this year's hits, every note is played live, with no backing tracks.

How large a band suits the ballroom?

With seating for up to 320, the room can take the core seven-piece or a bigger band with horns. If you want more room for tables, the DJ Hybrid puts live players in the crowd around a DJ.

Who keeps the night on schedule?

Eddie and Gabby emcee the reception. About a month out we hold a planning call on your timeline, and on the day one of us meets your planner before the reception starts.
