About Oheka Castle

Oheka Castle was built for the financier Otto Hermann Kahn on a 443-acre property in Cold Spring Harbor, on a hill raised to be the highest point on Long Island. The name is an acronym of Otto Hermann Kahn. Designed by Delano & Aldrich, the French-style chateau has 109,000 square feet and 127 rooms, and the castle says it is still the second-largest private home ever built in America.

Kahn used it as a summer home for lavish parties. After he died in 1934, the estate passed through several owners, including a military academy, and then stood abandoned and damaged by fire for years. A Long Island developer bought it in 1984 and restored it, down to slate from the original Vermont quarry and 222 new windows and doors.

Today the castle is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and runs as a 34-room hotel. The Formal Gardens, recreated from the Olmsted Brothers' original drawings, have eight reflecting pools and three fountains, and the Grand Staircase was inspired by the outdoor staircase at the Chateau de Fontainebleau. Kahn's daughter Maud was the castle's first bride, and Oheka still hosts just one wedding a day.

Planning your night at Oheka Castle

Approval for outside music

Oheka allows music companies that are not on its approved list, once they are approved for your event and meet its insurance requirements. We send our certificate of insurance and anything else the castle needs as soon as you book.

Distances on a big estate

A house of 109,000 square feet puts a long walk between the vehicles and the room. The castle routes buses through East Gate Drive, so we confirm which entrance and route our own vehicles should use, and we leave extra time so our engineer still gets two hours to set up.

Gardens first, then the Terrace Room

When the weather allows, ceremonies go outside in the Formal Gardens, and they move indoors when it doesn't. We plan the ceremony musician for both spots, then set the band in the Terrace Room for dinner and dancing.

On the North Shore

We perform at weddings across the North Shore, and Long Island is one of the areas where we have no out-of-town travel fees for most locations. Our Huntington page lists more venues nearby.

"THE BEST EVER. Not only are Gabby and Eddie so easy to work with, they are extremely talented and fun. It has been two weeks since our wedding and guests are still contacting us about the band. They did not stop playing once, and the dance floor was more crowded than any other wedding, all thanks to their energy, talent, and perfect song choices."

Questions about Oheka Castle

Can you play a wedding at Oheka Castle?

Yes. We can plan an Oheka wedding from the ceremony in the Formal Gardens to the last dance in the Terrace Room, starting with the castle's vendor approval.

Does Oheka allow outside bands?

Yes. The castle's wedding FAQ says outside music companies can work an event once they are approved and meet its insurance requirements, and we handle that paperwork with the castle directly.

How big a band fits the Terrace Room?

The castle seats 350 in the Terrace Room for dinner with music and dancing. A room that size suits the full band of 7 to 11 pieces, and horns add weight in a space that large.
