About the Omni William Penn

The Omni William Penn Hotel opened in 1916 on William Penn Place, and it has spent more than a century as one of downtown Pittsburgh's great gathering places. The hotel has welcomed presidents, performers and generations of Pittsburgh families. Today it has 597 guest rooms and 52,000 square feet of event space spread over 38 rooms.

Five of those rooms are offered for weddings. The Grand Ballroom, which the hotel calls the only two-tiered ballroom in Western Pennsylvania, has a gold-leaf balcony and three Baccarat crystal chandeliers, and the couple's entrance comes down from that balcony. The William Penn Ballroom hangs ten chandeliers, and its entrance puts the couple above the room with stairs on both sides.

The Urban Room is the one people photograph. Joseph Urban designed it around 1929, and it is Art Deco from floor to ceiling: blue and gold, tall columns, black Carrara glass and marble, with murals that end in a round painting 25 feet above the guests. The Bob and Dolores Hope room on the mezzanine is smaller and warmer, with mahogany walls, a carved plaster ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows and an entrance from a stone balcony.

Planning your night at the Omni William Penn

The entrance from the balcony

In the Grand Ballroom the big moment happens up high. We pick the song with you, watch for your cue at the balcony rail and bring the band in as you come down to the floor, while Gabby or Eddie makes the introduction from the stage.

Sizing the band to the room

The four wedding rooms described here run from 150 to 500 guests, and the right lineup changes with them. A full band with horns suits the Grand Ballroom, while in the Hope room the duo or a DJ Hybrid can be the better fit. We help you choose once you know your room.

The hotel's AV and ours

The hotel sells its own sound, lighting and monogram packages. Every one of our packages already includes a full PA and a sound engineer, so we compare notes with your event manager to avoid doubling up on speakers and to plan where your monogram or atmospheric lighting sits around the stage.

A working downtown hotel

Your wedding shares the building with hotel guests and meetings. We confirm our loading point and arrival time with the hotel in advance, and our certificate of insurance goes over in the form the hotel asks for.

"This band was AMAZING. Hands down the highlight of our reception, with everyone on the dance floor all night. They delivered everything we asked for and more. They read the room perfectly, kept the party going, and created an atmosphere our guests are still raving about. Professional, dynamic, and incredibly talented."

Questions about the Omni William Penn

Have you performed at the Omni William Penn?

Yes. The Omni William Penn is one of the Pittsburgh venues we have played, and you can watch our Omni William Penn Hotel video on this page.

Which ballroom should we choose for a large guest list?

The hotel lists the Grand Ballroom at up to 500 for a ceremony and reception and the William Penn Ballroom at 350. Pick the room that fits your count, and we size the band and plan the stage from there.

Do you play smaller weddings in the Urban Room or the Hope room?

Yes. For 150 to 225 guests, the core seven-piece, the Eddie & Gabby duo or the DJ Hybrid can each be right, depending on how much dancing you expect. We will tell you honestly which one we would pick.

Can you play the rehearsal dinner or a bridal brunch too?

Yes. The hotel also hosts rehearsal dinners, bridal teas and brunches, and the duo is built for gatherings of that size, with songs from the fifties to now.
