About Kimpton Hotel Monaco

Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh occupies the James H. Reed building, a Beaux Arts landmark from 1903 that first served an electric company and was last home to the Reed Smith law firm. The exterior keeps its original look. Inside, Kimpton filled the 248 guest rooms and the public spaces with bold color and a collection of art and sculpture.

Weddings center on two ballrooms with 24-foot ceilings. The Sheffield Ballroom is the larger, at about 2,300 square feet, with two-story windows and chandeliers hanging from a Beaux Arts ceiling, and it takes up to 240 for a reception. The Sofia Ballroom is a little smaller and holds up to 180. Both open off a foyer with two-story columns and ornate woodwork overhead.

Then there is the roof. On the ninth floor, the Rialto Suite opens onto the Rialto Rooftop, and the Emperor Rooftop sits beside it; together the three come to about 2,600 square feet with views over the city. The Commoner, the hotel's restaurant, caters, and an on-site wedding planner can run a whole weekend, from a welcome party to a farewell brunch.

Planning your night at Kimpton Hotel Monaco

Vows on the roof, dancing downstairs

A rooftop ceremony means two setups on two floors. The ceremony and cocktail-hour musician included in every package plays up on the ninth floor while the band sets the ballroom below, and we agree on a weather call with the hotel's wedding planner.

Mid-size rooms, tall ceilings

With 180 to 240 guests and 24 feet of air above them, these ballrooms reward a band sized to the room. We plan the stage footprint with the hotel so the dance floor stays generous, and the DJ Hybrid is an option when you want live sax or violin without a full stage.

Music across the weekend

The hotel plans weddings as weekends, with welcome parties, rehearsal dinners and brunch. The Eddie & Gabby duo suits those smaller gatherings, so the same faces can be there from the welcome party to the last dance.

After the last set

The hotel puts out a late-night menu once the reception winds down. If your guests want to keep dancing, our DJ after-party add-on picks up where the band leaves off.

"Eddie learned custom ceremony music and Gabby was an amazing emcee who kept the evening going in a subtle and classy way. Absolutely SLAYED."

Questions about Kimpton Hotel Monaco

Have you performed at Kimpton Hotel Monaco?

Yes. Kimpton Hotel Monaco is one of the Pittsburgh venues where we have performed.

Can you play a ceremony on the Monaco's rooftop?

Yes. We bring ceremony music to the ninth floor, anything from a soloist to a quartet, and we can add an officiant microphone so every guest hears the vows outdoors.

Sheffield or Sofia: which ballroom suits a live band?

Either one works, and the choice comes down to your guest count. The hotel lists the Sheffield at 240 for a reception and the Sofia at 180, and we size the lineup to whichever you book.

Can our first dance be a song you don't usually play?

Yes. After you book, your Music Form lists your must-play songs and special dances, and we learn special requests. There is nothing we can't or won't play live.
