The David L. Lawrence Convention Center runs along Fort Duquesne Boulevard on the riverfront side of downtown. Rafael Viñoly designed it, and when it was completed in 2003 it became the largest LEED Gold certified convention center in the world. Skylights and glass walls bring daylight into much of the building; the center says more than 75 percent of it can be naturally lit.
For galas, award dinners and company parties, the room to know is the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom on the third floor: 31,610 square feet under a 32-foot ceiling. The same floor holds 38 meeting rooms and two terraces, the Allegheny Overlook and the green-roofed South Terrace, and a skywalk leads from it to the 614-room Westin Convention Center Hotel.
On the fourth floor, the North Terrace is open-air space with views of the city. Levy, the center's exclusive caterer, keeps herb and vegetable gardens there and grows hops on its Rooftop Terrace for its own IPA. In all, the building has 53 meeting rooms and 313,400 square feet of exhibit space, most of it free of columns.

Planning your night at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center
Working from the run of show
Corporate nights run on a script, and our emcee works straight from it: announcements, speaker introductions and award presentations all come from the stage on cue. We get the run of show from your planner in advance and walk through it with them before doors open.
Rigging and the house AV company
Three Rivers Entertainment & Production is the center's in-house AV company and its exclusive rigging provider. We bring our own PA and engineer for the band, then coordinate with their team on power, staging and anything that needs to hang, so the two setups work together.
The right dock in a big building
With 37 loading docks in a building of 1.5 million square feet, the dock matters. We confirm the one that serves your room, the freight route and the load-in time with your event manager, and if our vehicles use the adjacent 700-space garage, we plan for its 8-foot-1-inch clearance.
A band for the size of the crowd
In the ballroom, the band can grow to eleven pieces with horns, electric violin or a second vocalist. For a client dinner or a terrace reception, the Eddie & Gabby duo or the DJ Hybrid suits a smaller crowd. Our corporate page explains how we run company events.

"This band was AMAZING. Hands down the highlight of our reception, with everyone on the dance floor all night. They delivered everything we asked for and more. They read the room perfectly, kept the party going, and created an atmosphere our guests are still raving about. Professional, dynamic, and incredibly talented."

Have you performed at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center?
Yes. The convention center is one of our Pittsburgh venues, and the video on this page is our own from there.
Do you play corporate events and galas?
Yes. We play company parties, launches, galas and client dinners, and our emcee runs the program from your run of show, speaker introductions and award presentations included.

Levy, the center's caterer, publishes a wedding menu, so receptions do happen here. Everything in our wedding packages applies, from the complimentary ceremony musician to the emcee.
When does the center assign an event manager?
About a year out, according to the center. We like to be in touch with that person early to settle the dock, the stage and the timing.
